PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Vanity
To rise above every challenge through the strength that comes from within.
Detroit, once an epicenter of progress and a manufacturing powerhouse, has in recent years had a fall from prominence which culminated in the city’s bankruptcy filing. But as the old saying goes, failure is not the falling down but the staying down; Detroit is not staying down. Its struggles have made it stronger and now it is building back with lessons learned and so much to offer. We still believe in ‘Made in Detroit’ which is why this hotel did not build, rather it renovated. Once a vibrant ballroom, The Vanity stood abandoned until this project gave it a second life. Inspired by the local art scene and restoration efforts throughout the city, The Vanity Hotel is part of Detroit’s next chapter. It is a celebration of the past with a focus on the future.

This is student work in pursuit of a master’s degree. This is not an authentic brand.
The Vanity Ballroom (pictured above) opened in 1929 and after decades of both success and struggles it currently stands abandoned but protected under landmark status.
